Gang show man dies
FORMER musical director of the Coventry Gang Show Billy Brickland has died. He was the show’s music maestro from 1965 until last year when he retired to Chester after suffering a stroke.

In 1954, Bill Brickland, a well-known Cestrian and Dance Band leader, was recruited to orchestrate the show and provide all the backing with his eight piece band. He continued in this capacity as Musical Director for the next 25 years until his final show in 1979, In 1965 he was recruited by Coventry to be their M.D. and this in turn led to his involvement in other Gang Shows in the Midlands. Mr Brickland was a member of the Chester Association of Old King's Scholars, vice-president of Chester and District Boy Scouts Association and has been musical director of "Scoutabout" for 25 years. A valued member of the Chester branch of the Musicians Union, he was highly thought of in Coventry where he annually directed the Scout "Gang Show".

He served in the Royal Tanks Corps in Britain and the Middle East, and also in the 13th/18th Royal Hussars, from 1939-46. For several years after the
