1881 census records his age as 69 born 1812. However, I think this is an error and his age was 59 which ties with his age of 27 at marriage.

Until he retired a few years ago from the firm of C. L. Clare and Co. he had regularly attended the Royal Exchange for a period of almost fifty years.
