No listing for Isaac Holmes in the Southport street index until 1890. Assume still lived at the Hydro until 1890. Checked electoral roll. No trace of him anywhere in Southport from 1887 until 1889. He is the only elector (East & Park Ward) at 9 Rawlinson Road in 1889, 1891 & 1896. House is missing in 1897, 1898, 1899, 1900.

A George Holmes of 9 Park Road was found when searching electoral roll. Unsure whether this is a family member.

I Isaac Holmes of Lyndale Rawlinson Road Hesketh Park Southport in the County of Lancaster Gentleman hereby revoke all former Wills and Testamentary dispositions made by me and declare this to be my last Will. I appoint my sons Charles Henry Holmes and Frederick William Holmes and my Brother James Holmes (hereinafter called my Trustees) to be the Executors and Trustees of this my Will. I give all my jewellery watches trinkets plate and plated Articles linen china glass books pictures prints wines liquors and other consumable stores furniture and other Household Effects to my dear wife Sarah absolutely And I also give to her the sum of Five hundred pounds to be paid within one calendar month after my decease I direct that my said wife shall have the use and occupation of the Dwellinghouse with the Offices Gardens and appurtenances belonging thereto now occupied by me for such period as she shall choose to occupy the same as her residence she during such period insuring and keeping [the same] insured against loss by fire in the sum of One thousand five hundred pounds in the names of my Trustees in some Office to be selected by them and also keeping the same in good repair and condition (reasonable wear and tear excepted) and paying all ground rent rates and taxes affecting the same I devise and bequeath all my Real and personal Estate not hereby otherwise disposed of unto my Trustees upon trust that my Trustees shall sell call in and convert into money the same or such part thereof as shall not consist of money And shall with and out of the moneys produced by such sale calling in and conversion and with and out of such part of my personal Estate as shall consist of money pay my funeral and testamentary expenses and debts and the legacies bequeathed by this my will or any Codicil hereto and shall with the consent in writing of my said wife [during her life] and after her decease at the discretion of my Trustees invest the residue of the said moneys on the securities hereinafter mentioned with power for my Trustees from time to time with such consent or at such discretion as aforesaid to vary such Investments and shall stand possessed of the said Residuary trust moneys and the Investments for the time being representing the same (hereinafter called the Residuary trust funds) In trust to pay the income thereof to my said wife during her life and after her decease I give and bequeath the capital of the Residuary trust funds with the future income thereof to my Trustees In trust for such child or children of mine living at the decease of my said wife and such Issue then living of my child or children then deceased as shall either before or after the death of my said wife attain the age of twenty one years or marry as tenants in common in a course of distribution according to the stocks and not to the number of individual objects and so that the Issue of deceased children may take by way of substitution the share or respective shares only which the parent or respective parents would if living have taken And I declare that except as appears by this my will there is nothing now due to me from any of my children in respect of any advances or payments made to any of them and that no claim in respect thereof shall or can be made against them or any of them or their or his Estates or Estate if dead in respect thereof except as aforesaid I authorise my Trustees to permit the sum of Three thousand pounds or any further sum forming part of my Residuary trust funds lying in the hands of my said son Frederick William Holmes at the time of my decease to remain as a loan to my said son Frederick William Holmes but so as to bear interest after the rate of Five pounds per centum per annum and so that the repayment thereof with interest after the rate aforesaid shall if my Trustees shall think fit be secured by the Bond of my said son Frederick William Holmes Whereas I have advanced to my Son in law Alfred Giddings of the Firm of Giddings and Dacre Ducie Street London Road Manchester Glass and Lead Merchants the sum of Three thousand pounds on a loan bearing interest at Five pounds per centum per annum which said loan as to so much thereof as shall be owing at the time of my decease may be allowed to remain for such period after my death as my Trustees may deem expedient But so and in such manner and I do hereby direct and declare that any loss occasioned by the said loan whether in respect of principal moneys or interest and whether in my lifetime or after my decease shall be and become the first charge on the share and interest of my daughter Sarah the wife of the said Alfred Giddings of and in my Residuary trust fund and premises And whereas the firm of Holmes Sadler and Holmes of Southall Street in the City of Manchester Glass and Photographic Merchants consisting of my Son Charles Henry Holmes my Son in Law John James Sadler and my son Herbert Holmes is indebted to me in the principal sum of Seven thousand seven hundred and eighty pounds for money lent and advanced by me to the said firm and in the sum of One thousand two hundred and seventy five pounds or thereabouts for an arrear of interest thereon amounting together to the sum of Nine thousand and fifty five pounds And whereas it has been mutually agreed between myself and the Members of the said Firm that I shall cease to be a Creditor of the said Firm for the said sum of Nine thousand and fifty five pounds so owing to me as aforesaid And that in lieu of my remaining such Creditor as last aforesaid for the said sum of Nine thousand and fifty five pounds I direct that the same sum shall be dealt with in the manner following that is to say, In respect of the sum of Three thousand and eighteen pounds six shillings and eight pence one equal third part thereof my Daughter Jane the wife of the said John James Sadler and one of the persons interested under my will shall be substituted in my place as a Creditor of the said Firm to the extent of One thousand nine hundred and eighty eight pounds nine shillings and three pence and shall be credited in the Books of account of the said Firm with that amount as Capital therein which said amount shall remain as a Loan from her to the said Firm for such period and on such terms as my Daughter and the partners for the time being of the said Firm shall mutually agree upon And that as to the sum of One thousand and twenty nine pounds seventeen shillings and five pence (the balance of the said sum of Three thousand and eighteen pounds six shillings and eight pence) and which is the amount now owing by the said John James Sadler to my son Charles Henry Holmes for money lent and advanced and secured by two several Promissory Notes of the said John James Sadler given to the said Charles Henry Holmes I further direct that the said sum of One thousand and twenty nine pounds seventeen shillings and five pence shall be placed to the credit of the said Charles Henry Holmes in the Books of Account of the firm of Holmes Sadler and Holmes in full satisfaction and discharge of the said Promissory Notes And as to the two other sums of Three thousand and eighteen pounds six shillings and eight pence and Three thousand and eighteen pounds six shillings and eight pence (the remaining two third parts of the said sum of Nine thousand and fifty five pounds) I direct that the same shall be carried to the credit of my two sons Charles Henry Holmes and Herbert Holmes respectively in the books of account of the said Firm of Holmes Sadler and Holmes as their or part of their Capital therein Provided always that in ascertaining the respective shares of all my children under the trusts of this my Will effect shall be given to the directions and dispositions herein contained with respect to the said sum of Nine thousand and fifty five pounds so that the respective shares of my said Daughter Jane Sadler and of my two Sons Charles Henry Holmes and Herbert Holmes may each be debited with Three thousand and eighteen pounds six shillings and eight pence as one third part of the said sum of Nine thousand and fifty five pounds And having regard to such directions and dispositions the trust accounts connected with my Estate shall be framed and made out in such manner as will effect an equal division of my trust estate and effects amongst my children without any preference or priority And I do hereby charge the share and interest of my said Daughter Jane of and in my Residuary trust fund and premises [and of] my said two Sons Charles Henry Holmes and Herbert Holmes with any loss which the said John James Sadler may become liable to bear on the winding up and final adjustment of the affairs of the partnership of Holmes Sadler and Holmes And also with all excess of the withdrawals of the said John James Sadler over and above his share of the profits of the said Firm of Holmes Sadler and Holmes between the thirty first day of October One thousand eight hundred and ninety one and the end of the partnership of the same Firm I empower my Trustees to postpone the sale and conversion of my property or any part thereof for so long as they shall think fit And I declare that the rents profits and income of my property for the time being remaining unsold and unconverted shall be paid and applied to the person or persons and in the manner to whom and in which the income of the proceeds of such sale and conversion would for the time being be payable or applicable under this my will if such sale and conversion had been actually made And I also declare that all moneys liable to be invested under this my will may be invested in or upon any stocks funds or securities of or guaranteed by the Government of the United Kingdom or of any British Colony or Dependency or in stock of the Bank of England or the Debentures or Debenture Stock or guaranteed or preference stock or shares of any Railway or other Company in Great Britain or India incorporated by Act of Parliament or Royal Charter and paying a Dividend on its ordinary stock or shares or upon Real or leasehold Securities in England or Wales but not elsewhere and either by way of purchase or Mortgage such Leasehold Securities being held for a term whereof sixty years at least shall be unexpired at the time of such Investment And I direct and declare that all trust moneys under this my will becoming vested in females shall be for their separate use and benefit and that their receipts alone notwithstanding coverture shall be sufficient discharges to my Trustees for the same And I further declare that in case a difference of opinion shall exist among my Trustees in regard to any of the trusts aforesaid or to the making of any advance or the exercise of any discretion authorised by this my will or to any act matter or thing proposed to be done in relation thereto the opinion and determination of the majority of the said Trustees shall be conclusive and shall be acted upon by my Trustees accordingly And I also declare that my Trustees may exercise or concur in exercising all powers and discretions hereby or by law given to them notwithstanding that they or any of them may have a direct or other personal interest in the mode or result of exercising any such power or discretion And I also declare that any person liable to pay money to my Trustees for the purposes of this my Will may by the written direction of my Trustees pay the same to any one of them or to their Solicitor or Agent on their behalf according to such direction and on making such payment shall be free from all responsibility in respect thereof And I also declare that the power of appointing new Trustees conferred by statute shall for the purposes of this my Will be vested in my said wife [during her life] In witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand and I have also set my hand to each of the five preceding sheets of "Regret has been expressed on 'Change at the announcement of the death of Mr. Isaac Holmes, which took place yesterday at his residence in Southport. Until he retired a few years ago from the firm of C. L. Clare and Co. he had regularly attended the Royal Exchange for a period of almost fifty years.

DEATHS
HOLMES - On the 19th October, at his residence, Lyndale, Rawlinson Road, Southport, ISAAC HOLMES, aged 75 years. Interment at Brooklands Cemetery on Friday, 23rd inst., 1 15p.m.

BE IT KNOWN that at the date hereunder written the last Will and Testament of Isaac Holmes of Lyndale Rawlinson Road Hesketh Park Southport in the County of Lancaster Gentleman deceased, who died on the 19th day of October 1896, at Lyndale aforesaid and who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Lyndale aforesaid within the District of the Hundred of West Derby, in Lancashire was proved and registered in the District Probate Registry of Her Majesty's High Court of Justice at Liverpool and that Administration of the personal estate of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to Charles Henry Holmes of 24 Southall Street Manchester in the said County Glass Merchant and Frederick William Holmes of Ingledene Barlow Moor Road Didsbury in the said County Yarn Agent and Merchant the Sons and James Holmes of Lyndale aforesaid Retired Schoolmaster the Brother the Executors named in the said Will, they having been first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same.
