The image of the watercolour painted in 1862 by William Gawin Herdman depicts the Mornington Road Church, said to be the first Methodist church with a spire. The stone-built gothic church had seats for 1,200 worshipers and a beautiful stained glass window in memory of Alderman William Sutton, hailed as the first sandgrounder.
