Was left for distribution amongst the general body of creditors, whose liabilities were expected to rank against the estate for dividend at Β£7,366. 6s. 10d. Excluding the balance of Β£13,010 the total assets amounted to about Β£6,335. Mr. Hockin, on behalf of the debtor, stated that Mr. Sadler did not think it right or proper at present to propose any scheme. At the proper time, when the position of the mortgagees had been ascertained, he hoped to come forward with a scheme, but at present it was impossible to do so. Mr. T. W. Handley, in reply to a creditor, said there would be a large shrinkage upon the value of the land properties as estimated. The meeting unanimously resolved to adjudge the debtor bankrupt, and authorised the Official Receiver to apply to the Court to make the adjudication. Mr. T. W. Handley, chartered accountant, was appointed trustee, and a committee of inspection was also appointed. Show more |

Sadler, at 34, Wellington-rd., Eccles, the Wesleyan Church has lost one of its most valued workers and supporters. The deceased gentleman was in his 73rd year, and for a very great portion of his life had been connected with the Eccles Church. He was a superintendent of the Sunday school before the erection of the buildings in Wellington-rd. nearly thirty years ago, and a member of the original trust of whom only Mr. B. D. Kenton is now living. Deceased was a member of the new trust, and had filled with but one exception every office in the church that could be held by a layman. He took a prominent part in the movement for the erection of the church and Sunday school buildings in Wellington-rd., and contributed 450 guineas (equivalent value in 2002 about Β£25,000) to the building fund. He also bore the cost of one of the stained glass windows which adorns the north end of the chapel. In the later years of his life Mr. Sadler devoted himself with great energy to the Lower Cross Mission, of which he had acted as superintendent since its inception. The funeral took place at St. Catherine's, Barton, on Wednesday, and was attended by a large number of officials of the chapel. A service was previously held on the Wesleyan Chapel, conducted by the Revs. G. Marris (superintendent minister) and W. Hind, and in a short address the former paid a tribute to the deceased's character and his noble work for the church. Show more |
