MRS MARGARET STARKIE

The funeral took place on December 21 at All Saints' Parish Church, Hoole, Chester, followed by cremation at Chester, of Margaret Starkie, of Upon, Chester, who died at the Countess of Chester Hospital on December 14, aged 82.

Mrs Starkie was born in Chester. She worked at Lloyds Bank before joining the County Surveyor's Department.

During the war she took part in ARP work including fire watching at Watergate House.

In 1947 she married Ken Starkie and in 1952 the had a son, Christopher.

Mrs Starkie was keen on politics, especially a general election. She became a member of the Young Conservatives and later was a hard worker in the Upton Grange Branch of the Party.

She was a founder member of Huntington WI and jopined Upton WI on moving into that village.

Mrs Starkie was a keen gardener and animal lover and her hobbies included reading, music, the ballet and crossword puzzels.

She also derived great pleasure in the company of her grandchildren, Lorna and Georgina.

Mrs Starkie supported several charities and, as a long-term sufferer of arthritis, she helped the Arthritis Research Campaign.

Ron Davies took both services. The organist was John Ross.

Donations of more than £300 were received for Arthritis Research.
