According to notes:-
"The Tams family had a line of wagons with teams of 6 horses between London and Dover. They had stages at Rochester and Canterbury and people unable to afford the mail coach walked beside the wagons for protection. Women and children were given lifts and the journey took 3 days. The mailcoach 15 hours"
