Ruanui families:
Mr and Mrs David McKay, with three children, took over their farm, now occupied by their grandson, Neil Rae, in 1907. Theirs was the second house built in the valley. It wa situated three miles from Mataroa on the Ruanui Road, which was not metalled, and transport was by horse and gig.
Mr McKay died in 1931 and his son Fergus managed the estate until it was divided up on the death of Mrs McKay in 1946. Robert Rae senior (married to Nancy McKay) and Clarrie McNeill, both returned soldiers, each took a block, with Fergus McKay taking the remainder
Douglas Brophy (junior) bought four hundred acres from Clarrie McNeill in 1961. This was also part of the original McKay farm
