On his arrival in Australia Lars Bek was employed by The Colonial SugarRefining Company at O'Connell Street, Sydney working as an analyticalchemist although on his marriage certificate he gave his occupation as"mill manager."

Auckland New Zealand from May 1900 to May 1920
He also worked for the CSR in Queensland for 8 years and in New SouthWales for 17 years and retired with a pension from the CSR c 1921.
