Lars was a very strict man who made his wife Kate walk several pacesbehind him.
He took two trips home to Denmark (1922 and 1932) and would not takehis wife Kate home with him.
Hjørring is situated centrally within the holiday district of Vendsysselon the northern tip of Jutland,Denmark and is surrounded by the idylliccoastal area of Lønstrup and several villages, e.g. Mygdal, Sønderlev andKrustrup, where various skilled artists and craftersmen ply their trade. The beautiful nature of Vendsyssel helps make this area unique.
Hjørring the oldest town of Jutland some say! One thing is forcertain, though: Being a 1000 years old, Hjørring has manifested itselfas the capital of Vendsyssel and has developed into an environmentallycompatible town which consists of a harmonious combination of green parksclose to the town centre and areas of art and trade.
24th July,1934-Lars Peter BEK applied for Australian citizenship.Addressat this time was 43 Hall Street,Bondi.
The reason for his application was "desire to restore to his wife heroriginal status as a British subject."
In those days an Australian woman who married a non-British subjectautomatically lost her Australian citizenship so although Katherine BEKhad been born in Australia her marriage to an alien meant that she wasno longer a British subject and her nationality was now Danish.
Presumably Lars CSR pension would cease when he died so restoringKatherines Australian citizenship would allow her to receive anAustralian government pension.
28th August,1934-Lars BEKs application for naturalization was grantedbut he died two days before the Governor-General signed the Certificateof Naturalization and therefore it was of no effect and did not conferthe status of a naturalised British subject.Katherine BEK was informed byThe Commonwaelth Investigation Branch that if she paid a fee of fiveshillings and filled out the necessary forms she could then apply for aCertificate of Naturalization in her own name.
6th November,1934-Katherine BEK renounced her Danish citizenship, swore anoath of allegiance to the King and became once more an Australian citizen.
