I-93 crashes take 2 lives

A Beverly man was killed when his car slammed into an abutment on Route 93 in Methuen and a Jamaica Plain man was crushed to death under a car on the same route in Reading, within a half-hour of each other this morning.

James F. Ingleson, 43, 11 Butterworth Road, Beverly, was pronounced dead after being taken from his wrecked car on the southbound land of I-93 and rushed to Bon Secours Hospital.

Paul J. Rodriguez, 26, 278 Lamartine St., Jamaica Plain, was dead on arrival at Winchester Hospital, suffering from a skull fracture and crushed chest.

Ingleson, an engineering analyst for the Honeywell Corporation, who had just taken a new post with the company in Concord, N.H., met his death when his car slammed head-on into the cement abutment a short distance north of the Pelham Street, Methuen, interchange.

A motorist notified Methuen police of the accident at 3:30 a.m. and police and firefighters responding to the call found the victim inside his badly damaged car, with the steering wheel broken by the impact.

Cause of the accident was not indicated and an investigation was launched by Sgt. Roland T. Mignault and Officers Robert M. Mullin and Albert Ange, with Registry of Motor Vehicles Investigator Albert Ewing.

State police investigating the Reading fatality and reported that Rodriquez was operating in the northbound lane of I-93 between Routes 128 and 129 when, for some unknown reason, the car entered the median strip, travelled 86 feet before returning to the road, where police found another 62 feet of skid and roll over marks. The car stopped facing southerly and the victim was found pinned beneath the car.

Riding with Rodriquez, police said, was Donna M. DeJesus of Rhodes Avenue, Wilmington, owner of the car. She was reported to have been thrown from the car as it overturned. She was treated at Winchester hospital for scalp lacerations.

State Troopers Steven Petrie and Frank Baron of the Andover barracks investigated.

Ingleson was a native of Burlington, Vt., and a member of St. Peter’s Church, Beverly, Liberty Lodge, A.F. & A. M., a past president of the Thompson Country Club in North Reading and a member of the American Professional Engineers Society. He was a graduate of the University of Vermont in 1952.

He is survived by wife, Mrs Barbara I. Ingleson; a daughter, Linda D.; a son, Steven J., and his mother, Mrs. John F. Ingleson.

The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Beverly. Friends may call at the Lee, Moody and Russell funeral home, 9 Dane St., Beverly, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Crash kills salesman

A 42-year-old Beverly man was killed early this morning when his car hit a bridge abutment on the southbound lane of Rte. 93 in Methuen.

James F. Ingleson, 11 Butterworth Rd. was pronounced dead on arrival at Bon Secours Hospital 3:55 a.m.

Police Capt. Robert N. McCarty said Ingleson was trapped in the totally demolished vehicle. McCarty said there were no skid marks at the scene of the accident.

Ingleson was a computer salesman for Honeywell Corp. A Friend said he often traveled in northern part of the state.

Spero Frangos, Ingleson’s neighbor, described him as quiet, friendly man.

Ingleson had been promoted recently by Honeywell to supervise programming for the State of New Hampshire. He planned to move to Concord where he purchased a house.

Michael Frangos of the Commodore Restaurant was shocked at Ingleson’s death. He said 50 of Ingleson’s neighbors had a going away party for him Saturday.

Ingleson was born in Burlington, Vt. And was a graduate of the University of Vermont.

He leaves a wife, Barbara, a daughter, Linda, and a son, Steven. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s Church, Ocean Street, on Monday, March 5 at 11:00 a.m.
