Kath was born on Sunday 16th February 1936 in her parents house at 23 Pool Street, Dublin, Ireland. She was the fifth of twelve children of Reginald James BROWN and Elizabeth CASWELL.

In 1940 she attended St. Bridget’s Convent, The Coombe, Dublin and in 1943 Meade Street School, Meade Street, Dublin. Her first Holy Communion was on 27th May 1944. In 1946 she moved with her family to 44 Rutlland Avenue, Dolphins Barn, Dublin.

At the age of 13 she left school and went to work packing Brillo
