Kath was born on Sunday 16th February 1936 in her parents house at 23 Pool Street, Dublin, Ireland. She was the fifth of twelve children of Reginald James BROWN and Elizabeth CASWELL.

In 1940 she attended St. Bridget’s Convent, The Coombe, Dublin and in 1943 Meade Street School, Meade Street, Dublin. Her first Holy Communion was on 27th May 1944. In 1946 she moved with her family to 44 Rutlland Avenue, Dolphins Barn, Dublin.

At the age of 13 she left school and went to work packing Brillo pads at Kelly’s Corner. In the same year worked in a sewing factory and also a sweet factory. In 1950 Kath was working at Greenmount Mill, Dublin as a Drawer but left in 1952 to make cardboard boxes for Smuffits, Clunsky, Dublin.

She moved to Kilburn, London in 1954 and worked with her sister at Lyons House, Marble Arch making salads. She returned to the family home in Dublin in 1955 and worked for Joseph Locke, off Grafton Street, Dublin washing up. However, she returned to England in March 1956 and lived at Craig Lea Hotel, Bold Street, Southport where she also worked as a waitress. This was to be where she met her future husband, George whilst he was dropping off a friend on his motorbike. In October the same year she moved to Guildford Road, Southport and got a job in Whitelea Laundry, Bedford Road.By 1957 she was living in a flat at 16 Part Street and working in the sweet factory of White Hudsons, Shakespeare Street. Late the same year she moved to 102 Linaker Street and worked at Todds Doll Factory, Tulketh Street and as a shop assistant at Moors Market, Hoghton Street.

She was married to George FLETCHER on 4th April 1959 in St. Teresa’s Church, Southport and they lived at 84 Leyland Road before moving to 224 Marsh Lane in Preston. They returned to 35 Leyland Road, Southport in that same year. In 1960 they had moved again to 30 Bridge Street and then in 1962 they were at 74 St Cuthberts Road, Lostock Hall, Preston. Another return to Southport in 1967 to 132 Hart Street and to 25 Zetland Street in 1968. Finally they settled at 58 Windsor Road in 1971 until moving to 140 Norwood Avenue in 1983. They moved again in 1987 to 61 Upper Aughton Road and in 1988 to 32 Chestnut Street with another move in 1990 to 115 Shakespeare Street followed by 3b Ivy Street in 1994, 92 Eslwick Close in 1995, 26 Roselea Drive in 2000 and Sandbrook Road a few year later.

Mother to nine children: Tony, Paul, David, Brian, Carol, James, Tina, Susan & Deirdre. She died on 30th April 2008 at 35 The Causeway, Southport aged 72 years. Her ashes are buried in Botanic Gardens, Southport in the beautiful gardens outside the Fernery.
