In 1912 all the headstones were removed from around St John the Baptist, Chester.
The graves themselves including bodies were left in the ground.

Headstone inscriptions and grave locations were detailed in a book called β€œMonumental Inscriptions – St John the Baptist Chester 1912”. Only one copy of this book exists.
