One night in June, 1943, this airman was the pilot of a bomber which attacked the airfield at Comiso. Whilst over the target the aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire. The inter-communication system was rendered unserviceable, one engine was put out of action, while a fire broke out near the entrance hatch; other damage had been sustained and two of the crew were wounded.
