Din and Timothy Jn purchased Section 4 and 5, Block III (Tiriraukawa S.D.) from Samuel and Ethel Parsons on 2nd November 1936. Both these sections were of 150 acres.
Section 7, Block III (Tiriraukawa S.D.) was transferred from Samuel and Ethel Parsons to their son Allan in 1937. This section was purchased from Allan Parsons in 1970 by Bernard and Timothy Jn McCarthy
After the death of their father in 1933, Din and Tim McCarthy farmed in partnership until 1958 when Din, Anne and John moved to Mahihi, Otorohonga. they farmed sheep and cattle for stock production as was usual for the district. Only a few paddocks were ploughed, partly because of contour, with swedes and choumollier beong the fodder crops grown. However a small paddock of a few acres of lucerne was grown. These early years employed the use of draft horses and a 'Konaki' was used. the steel rimmed wheels had a maire centre piece.
Much of the original land had only had the bush felled and burnt so as to establish pasture. Duiring the 1930s and 40s much of the farm ws developed - fencing, stumping, some ploughing and mole draining.
In 1952 Charles Cross built a house for Tim and Win McCarthy about a 1/4 mile further down Whaka Road (between the McCarthy homestead and Allen's house site) from totara timber off the farm.
In 1952 electricity was supplied (the line being continued from Tim Devanes). This was permitted because of the erection of the new house and was also connected to the homestead in May 1952. Tim, Winnie and family moved into their new home in September 1952 and Bernard and Phillip are now the occupants of the house.

Samuel Parsons sold 300 acres to Din and Timothy McCarthy in 1936 & Allan Parsons took over the remaining block in 1937.

The Tiriraukawa Pony Club was formed in 1947 by J Marshall and started meeting monthly - first at Mickleson's property and then down the Whaka Road at T. Devane's hay paddock. The families of the district all participated, children riding their ponies to attend these rallies. No floats in those days. Betty Thorpe and Mary Devane rode down from Mataroa, along with the Illstons and McCarthys from Rongoiti.
